CHANCE Student Victoria Doris

I became a part of the CHANCE family the summer before my senior year of High School. I was a rising senior torn between college majors which was essential for my next step which was college. I participated in CHANCE’s STEM Academy summer program which allowed me to develop my interest in STEM. The support system and family that I built over the summer was a unique one. This experience influenced my decision to stay in Chicago and attend UIC because I knew that I would not receive the love, support and care that I received from another university. The relationship that I built was one in which I wanted to continue to develop and be a part of. CHANCE has provided me with scholarship, career, volunteering and mentorship opportunities of which have all played an essential role in my educational, professional and personal success.

The services that the CHANCE Program provides are extraordinary. This program offers a lot of supportive resources such as tutoring, workshops, and connects students with professionals in different career fields. This program shows that they really care about their students and wants them to succeed and have a successful future. Thus far, I have enjoyed my community outreach and civic engagement opportunities because I’ve had the opportunity to help others (especially high school students). I am also a CHANCE Ambassador and this is a wonderful role to represent the program in so many ways. The combination of academics, social, cultural enrichment, civic engagement, internships and much more have helped me become a more responsible student.
